2024 recap

2024 has come and gone, and I have spent time reflecting on the year. This was our year of Disney—we went to Disney World and on a Disney Cruise, we finally got back into the habit of attending church regularly after COVID, and many more wonderful (and not-so-wonderful) things:

JANUARY

  • Finch played basketball and promoted to green belt in taekwondo

  • Rooney was involved in confirmation class and student council

FEBRUARY

  • Eric and Rooney went to their last Daddy Daughter Dance

  • Finch and I went to the Mother Son Dance

  • We dealt with a lot of sickness and the kids missed more school than they attended

  • Rooney had a band concert

  • Disney World trip!!!

MARCH

  • Rooney turned 12 at Disney World

  • Eric turned 40

  • Rooney and I went to the boys’ state basketball tournament to watch my hometown play

  • We spent spring break in Okoboji

  • We bought a new van!

  • Finch got his first stitches in his left thumb

  • Celebrated Easter

APRIL

  • We took a couples’ trip to Okoboji to celebrate Eric’s 40th birthday

  • Finch started baseball

  • Rooney did softball and poetry club

  • Eric ran a half marathon

  • Rooney went to her first school dance

  • Eric and Finch ran the Grand Blue Mile

MAY

  • Eric and I had a date day in Omaha and attended the 2024 Berkshire Hathaway Annual Shareholders Meeting

  • Rooney had a band concert

  • Eric and I celebrated 21 years together

  • We babysat Finch’s class hamster, Peanut, for a weekend

  • We celebrated Memorial Day in Okoboji

JUNE

JULY

  • Finch went to summer camp for a week

  • I was in a car accident :(

  • Two weeks of Vacation Bible School

  • Finch played 7 v 7 football

  • Summer vacation in Okoboji

  • We watched the Summer Olympics

AUGUST

  • We bought another van

  • Eric’s sister got married—on a boat!

  • Finch did a football camp

  • The kids went to Adventureland with their cousins

  • Eric and I went to the Iowa State Fair

  • Rooney played fall softball

  • Rooney started 7th grade

  • Finch started 3rd grade

  • Finch started padded flag football

  • We went to an Iowa Hawkeyes football game

SEPTEMBER

  • We went to local football games and the homecoming parade

  • Eric and Finch went to the 49ers game in Minnesota

  • Finch joined the chess club at school

  • Rooney started show choir

  • We went to the orchard

  • I turned 41

OCTOBER

  • Eric and I celebrated 18 years of marriage with a fun date at Top Golf

  • Eric went to a Hawkeye football game with friends

  • We took fall family photos

  • Eric ran his first—and last?—full marathon

  • Finch did Bricks 4 Kidz (LEGO club at school)

  • We went to see the Harlem Wizards

  • A fun night of trick-or-treating

NOVEMBER

  • Rooney had a band concert

  • Rooney and I went on an overnight confirmation retreat

  • Eric went to San Francisco for work

  • We volunteered as a family with Meals from the Heartland

  • We celebrated Thanksgiving in Okoboji

DECEMBER

  • Eric and I went to Costa Rica — a trip he earned through work

  • My dad, siblings, and our families went to on a Disney Cruise over Christmas

LOOKING AHEAD TO 2025

  • Rooney becomes a teenager in March, and Eric and I want to give her a room makeover

  • Finch will turn 10 in June!

  • I want to read 42 books and spend a lot less time scrolling on my phone. I put a 15-minute limit on Instagram and haven’t missed it!
