Okoboji 2020
2020 has been a difficult year in almost every way. I hesitated to share this post, because I’m aware of the luxury it was to even take a vacation this year. But, it was a bright spot for us and so, so good for our mental health.
Our Okoboji lake house—which we affectionately call Taj West (because that’s what my nana called it)—was the perfect change of scenery after nine weeks of quarantine. It was also a healing place after losing both my grandparents — the incredible people who purchased, renovated and poured so much love into the home. The paint on the outside may be chipping, but it’s full of charm.
We’re headed back soon for another visit, but as I like to do every year, I’ve rounded up my favorite photos and memories (plus a video!) from our time in Okoboji—our paradise—this year.
MEMORIES
Finch “diving” and flipping nonstop off the swim raft, and Rooney being brave and jumping in, letting her head completely submerge. (They both ended up with swimmer’s ear/ear infections the following week, which was a lot less fun, but just as memorable.)
My goal was to do a back flip off the back of the pontoon, which I did! And, just as fun, my 9-year-old niece was inspired to learn how to do it herself. Which she did, less than an hour later! And Finch did a front flip! It was a blast. (I officially need more adventure in my life.)
