painting the nursery
We're painting again! I still love all our white walls, but as soon as we found out we were having a boy, I knew I wanted to paint one of the walls in his room black. As far as a theme goes, I'm calling it "geometric modern" and the color scheme will be mostly white, black and gray.
The paint color is Behr "Black" in eggshell. I had picked up swatch cards from Lowe's and The Home Depot, but all of them had a blue or brown or gray tint to them, so I chatted with the very helpful man at the paint counter and he mixed me a gallon of just black with no other colors in it. It looked navy in the can, but dried perfectly black.
It took us about an hour and a half start-to-finish...if we would have waited for Rooney to go to bed it likely would have gone a little faster. She really wanted to help, which was super sweet but also quite stressful anytime she had a paint brush in her hand.
As some people noticed on Instagram, we don't use painter's tape when we paint. This angled brush is the secret (and here's a great video on how to use it).
We did a pretty good job of cutting in, but after we were done I had the idea to use a black Sharpie Paint Pen around the edges to create more of a straight line. It worked perfectly! I used a medium point pen around the base trim and window, a fine point in the corners, and I think I will need an extra fine point for the ceiling because our ceilings are textured and it gets in the way from making a straight line.
We've still got a lot of work to do before he comes (obviously that brown window blind has to go!), but it feels so great to have this part done!
Next up...DIY faux wallpaper on an adjacent wall! We started on it last night - here's a sneak peek!
