hello from the lake

Hello, hello! I didn't mean to take a week-long break from the blog but last week we encountered what will forever be known as The Great Summer Sickness of 2014. Yikes. It was rough. Like, really rough. I woke up on Monday with a sore throat and ears, and Rooney woke up with mucous covering her eyes. I thought I might have strep throat or an ear infection, and Rooney appeared to have pinkeye. We like to treat things as naturally as possible so we waited it out, scheduled two chiropractic appointments for each of us, doused ourselves with essential oils, and even got breastmilk drops from a friend for Rooney's eyes. After two days we weren't feeling any better (I was actually feeling much worse), so we made the call to see a medical doctor.

I'm so glad we did. We were able to see Rooney's pediatrician on Wednesday morning, and I saw our family doctor in the afternoon. Rooney has a cold in her eyes (so strange and yucky) so we are still waiting it out, but it was nice to talk to her doctor about which oils to be using and making sure she could go back to daycare. I was told that my symptoms were a result of allergies, so I switched up the oils I was using and also got some Zyrtec, ibuprofen and a nasal spray to help me get over the hump.

We are feeling better (not 100%, but at least we are able to get out of bed!) and now we get to spend the week with my family at our favorite place: Lake Okoboji. For us, it's complete paradise to stay at my grandparents' 9-bedroom, 6-bathroom lake house and spend time reading and relaxing on the lake. Here are just a few photos I've taken since we arrived last night.
