family photo time capsule 2024

Every year we take a family picture in front of this wall at our church. When Eric and I snapped the first one for our 2010 Christmas card using a point-and-shoot camera propped on the back of our Jeep (see below), we had no intention of making this a yearly thing. Then we found ourselves taking photos there shortly after Rooney was born, and the rest is history. We now have 14 photos in our collection, and it's a fun way to see how our family has changed over the years.

When I look at this year's photo, here's what I see:

  • Rooney (12): affirmed her baptism, seemingly grows an inch taller every day

  • Eric: turned 40, loves a good sauna, signed up to run a marathon this fall

  • Kelsey: declared this my year of health (i.e., year of lots of doctor appointments), recently upgraded my white minivan to … yet another white minivan

  • Finch (9): officially a third grader, asked for a “baseball mullet” haircut, can solve a Rubik’s cube and Pyraminx
